TRL Systems Security Division Supports Families at Ronald McDonald House Holiday Event
Recently, members of TRL Systems’ Security division volunteered their time to support a holiday celebration at the Ronald McDonald House Long Beach, helping create a safe welcoming environment for families whose children are receiving critical care.
The event was an invitation-only holiday gathering for families with children in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Miller Children’s Hospital. More than 200 families were expected to attend, each navigating unique challenges but united by a shared experience of resilience, hope and uncertainty.
Upon arrival, volunteers were welcomed by the facility’s director who provided an overview of the Ronald McDonald House mission. Located directly across from the hospital, the Long Beach Ronald McDonald House allows families to stay close to their children at no cost while offering private rooms, shared kitchens and community spaces during an incredibly difficult time. TRL Systems’ Security team played an active role throughout the five-hour event, assisting with registration, managing access points and supporting crowd flow to maintain a comfortable and organized environment.
One of the main attractions was Santa’s Workshop, a thoughtfully arranged space where children could select toys based on age group. Families were welcomed in small groups to ensure a calm and personal experience. Each child received a large hand-decorated gift bag and selected several toys before taking photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Outside in the courtyard, families enjoyed fresh donuts, pizza, cookies, drinks, arts and crafts and raffle prizes, creating a festive atmosphere centered on warmth and connection.
Families in attendance represented a wide range of backgrounds and circumstances but were brought together by a shared journey. The Ronald McDonald House fosters connection among parents and siblings by encouraging interaction and mutual support during some of the most stressful moments of their lives. Volunteers are the foundation of the organization, supporting everything from community meals to daily operations. TRL Systems was honored to contribute not only through hands-on support during the event but through continued involvement as well. As part of this initiative, TRL Systems will be donating three new 43-inch LED monitors to upgrade the facility’s game room, enhancing the space for children and families.
At the end of the event, TRL volunteers assisted with cleanup by restoring the space to its original condition and ensuring the house was ready to continue serving families without interruption.
For many involved, the experience was deeply rewarding.
“It was some of the best five hours I’ve ever spent,” shared Gary Chavarría, Security General Manager at TRL Systems. “Very rewarding. Absolutely terrific.”
TRL Systems is proud of its Security division for leading this effort and representing the company with professionalism, compassion and heart. Community involvement like this reflects our commitment not only to safety and security but to supporting people when it matters most.
