Inspiring the Next Generation: TRL Systems Connects with SCIT Students
At TRL Systems, we believe in shaping the future by investing in the next generation of professionals who will carry our industry forward. On July 17, Healthcare General Manager of Operations Jason Souza and Security Operations Manager Shad Stoltz headed to the Southern California Institute of Technology (SCIT) for a special information session with students in their electrical engineering degree and certification programs.
An Industry Comes to Life
Speaking to a room of curious and motivated students, Jason and Shad gave an inside look at TRL’s role in the fast-evolving world of fire life safety, security and integrated technology. The conversation went far beyond company basics, highlighting the wide range of field positions available, from installation technicians to IT engineers and service techs, and shedding light on the niche but vital world of low-voltage systems.
To make it real, they brought the tech. Using a demo Avigilon AI-enabled camera, Shad demonstrated how smart search functions can quickly analyze video footage for specific traits like clothing color or partial facial features. Jason provided a hands-on demo of an EST4 fire alarm system, walking through how it’s programmed, how alarms activate and why safety codes dictate strobe placement.
Careers that Safeguard Lives
The message went deeper than just showcasing cool tech. Shad reminded students that every wire pulled or piece of equipment installed plays a role in public safety and helps first responders do their jobs more effectively. Whether it’s a hospital, amusement park, high-rise or school, these students could someday be part of teams that help protect lives and property.
According to Jason, students stayed after to ask questions and connect; some even submitted their resumes. Some were surprised by how dynamic and purpose-driven a career in this space could be. Others were blown away by the real-world applications of the training they’re receiving, realizing that the hands-on labs and certifications they’re earning can translate directly to meaningful, well-paying jobs in the field.
By showing students what’s possible, we’re not just helping them launch their careers, we’re helping build a stronger, smarter and safer future for everyone.
